Submarines & Systems
A century of underwater experience
It all started with the 252-tonne HMS Svärdfisken (Swordfish) in 1914. Since then, Kockums has been intimately involved in developing the Swedish submarine fleet into an efficient and powerful force.
Today Kockums-built submarines are among the most advanced conventional (non-nuclear) submarines in the world. One of their important attributes is the Kockums-developed Stirling air-independent propulsion (AIP) system that enables these submarines to stay dived for weeks rather than days.
Kockums submarine rescue system is the only system in the world capable of rescuing an entire submarine crew of 35 persons in one single lift.
