Kockums has been providing operational USV systems such as the Self-propelled Acoustic-Magnetic minesweeper system (SAM) since the 1980s.
The recently revealed Piraya USV is the product of an in-house development project that began in 2002. Our aim was understanding the use of networking technology to design future naval systems, using of computer science and multi-agent based intelligent software rather than communication technology and networking as such.
Group control is now recognized as the next important leap towards the efficient and effective use of unmanned vehicles.
