Auxiliary Vessels
Competent and Dedicated Naval Assets
Kockums has experience in newbuilding and refitting of auxiliary naval vessels in sizes up to about 110 metres in length. These are very competent naval assets that can be dedicated for any purpose given by customers' requirements. Examples on deliveries for the Royal Swedish Navy are:
- HMS Carlskrona - originally built and delivered by Kockums as a minelayer in 1982. Served as a expeditionary training vessel for Swedish naval cadets for more than 20 years. Converted into a command and control vessel at Kockums 2009-2010. Length 106 m, displacement abt. 3 200 tonnes.
- HMS Orion - intelligence and surveillance vessel delivered 1984. Life-extension refurbishment carried out at Kockums in 2010. Length 61 m, displacement abt. 1 200 tonnes.
- HMS Visborg - built and delivered in 1976 as combined minelayer and command vessel. The sister ship, HMS Älvsborg, was sold to Chile and recommissioned as Almirante José Toribio Merino Castro in 1997. Length 92 m, displacement abt. 2 700 tonnes.
