Solar energy and Carbon fibre vessels
As demonstrated throughout history many technologies developed in a military context often find their way out to civil and commercial app-lications. Kockums products and technologies make no exception.
In light of increased environmental impact and climate change aware-ness, this is deservingly exemplified by our Stirling engines being used to convert solar energy, as well as by a growing interest in lowering fuel consumption by introduction of lightweight composite structures as developed by Kockums.
New company for commercial Stirling applications
Since 2009 all commercial, non-naval applications involving Kockums Stirling engine, is exclusively handled by a new established company: Ripasso Energy AB.
CarboCAT® - Lightweight carbon fibre catamarans
Kockums entered this market during 2007 and started the develop-ment of a range of new carbon fibre catamaran vessels - CarboCAT®. CarboCAT® designs are available for various purposes in the range of of 18 to 23 m and 38 to 43 m. A first order was received in July 2009. CarboCAT®is marketed through the FINTRY Marine Group.
Structures and components in steel and composites
Kockums, given its infrastructure and know-how, can provide manufacturing of components and large structures made from both steel and composites.
Composite superstructures and deck houses for commercial ferries and passsenger vessels are marketed jointly with companies DIAB International AB and Thermal Ceramics through the Composite Superstructure Concept (CSC).
Mobile bridges for urgent needs and fast relief
Kockums has developed several designs for mobile bridges, with manufacturing and deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces. At present Kockums has no production line for mobile bridges, but the designs can be made available for license manufacturing.
