Four awarded for their contribution to the development of submarine technology

Congratulations to this year’s Award winners

Project Manager Ulf Nilsson, Kockums; Naval Engineer Hans Egonsson, Swedish Defence Matériel Administration (FMV); Commander Mikael Hahne, master of HMS Belos and Lieutenant-Commander Stefan Östrand, 1st Submarine Flotilla, have been awarded scholarships by the Kockums Jubilee Fund, for their contribution to the development of submarine technology. They have each received scholarships worth SEK 27 000. The winners were congratulated by the Inspector General of the Royal Swedish Navy, Rear Admiral Anders Grenstad, together with Kockums’ CEO, Ola Alfredsson, who jointly presented the Awards.

The Kockums Jubilee Fund was inaugurated in conjunction with the celebration of the company’s 150th Anniversary. The scholarships are awarded annually to individuals who have made a special contribution to the development of submarine technology. The Awards are determined by a Committee, made up of representatives from the Royal Swedish Navy, FMV and Kockums. The work of the Committee is headed by the Inspector General of the Royal Swedish Navy. This year’s winners received their awards in conjunction with a seminar, in which they had taken part, during the subsequent gala dinner.

Project Manager Ulf Nilsson, Kockums, currently heads the Noli Project, which concerns the export of two submarines to Singapore. He receives his Award for the impressive way he has carried out his duties as design engineer and project manager for both Swedish and international projects.

Naval Engineer Hans Egonsson, FMV, receives his Award for his balanced, cost-efficient and all-embracing technical solutions in connection with the design of new Swedish submarines.

Commander Mikael Hahne, master of HMS Belos, receives his Award for his sustained commitment to Swedish submarine rescue, in both the national and international arena.

Lieutenant-Commander Sten Östrand, 1st Submarine Flotilla, receives his Award for his dedication in the planning and implementation of trials and operational missions, which he ensured were conducted to the highest standards.
