Things are really moving at the Kockums workshop. The pace of work on the production of newbuild 469, which comes under product area CarboCATTM, is intense. We’re talking about a 23 metre long work-boat for offshore windparks, constructed in carbon fibre. The order is worth around SEK 45 million, with delivery scheduled for the end of August this year. And it’s a project with considerable promise. CarboCATTM is a product marketed by Fintry Marine Design AG for Kockums AB.
Mats Grähs, head of the ‘Composite workshop’, as well as his staff, consider the project inspiring. They are convinced that it will prove a success.
“We hope and believe that there will be demand for several vessels of this type,” says Mats Grähs. “The project is well timed, given the fact that several large offshore windparks are scheduled for construction at a number of offshore sites in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe.”
This is why the wheelhouse, for example, is being designed so that it can be extended as required and produced in different dimensions, to suit the needs of different customers. In other words, this building approach provides considerable flexibility in terms of construction technique. The hull is also constructed to facilitate changes in its length and keel form, depending on the propulsion system selected by the customer.
