Engineering density of a warship is astounding. From stem to stern is every square inch filled with equipment. Not only that everything is share an area that is a fraction of what one could wish, it will also work together under tough conditions, but to reveal the ship's presence to an opponent.
The intense competition on the weight and space, making cooperation across department boundaries vital; every change means that the puzzle must be added on. The series is short. Usually there is no prototype for evaluation. The first ships built, is almost always the first to be delivered. Therefore, everything must be right from the start. Is not technology that meets the requirements, we must develop it themselves.
Project periods are both long and short. From development to deployment, it can take ten years for a new series of ships.
