Karlskrona
Kockums location Karlskrona, formerly known as Karlskronavarvet, was established already in 1679 as a naval shipyard for the Royal Swedish Navy. The history of over 300 years of naval shipbuilding has taken Kockums in Karlskrona from ships made of wood, subsequently iron and steel, to today’s composite materials like in the Swedish Visby Class Stealth corvettes built in Carbon-fibre-Sandwich.
Malmö
Kockums location Malmö was established in 1840 specialised in commercial shipbuilding and from the beginning of the 20th century also submarines. Today commercial shipbuilding has closed down in favour of submarine design which remains the main area of business in Malmö. The main product is conventional (diesel-electric) air-indepentent (AIP) submarines, among the most advanced in the world.
Muskö
Since 2007 Kockums has overtaken the naval maintenance responsibility at the former naval underground dock yard on the island of Muskö south of Stockholm.
